Advent Meditations - Week 4

December 21 to December 24

Picture
December 21 - Slaughter of the Innocents (Matthew 2:16)

What was said through the prophet Jeremiah is fulfilled:

“A voice is heard in Ramah,
    weeping and great mourning,
Rachel weeping for her children
    and refusing to be comforted,
    because they are no more.”

Pray now for those who are innocent victims of murder, violence, gun violence, and crime

Consider the conditions that invite non-violence, and healing for those who are victims.

What can I do to further God’s love for and interest in victims of violence and crime?

December 22 - Flight to Egypt ( Matthew 2:14)

Joseph gets up and takes the Child and His mother while it is still night, and leaves for Egypt.

Pray now for those who are immigrants, refugees, and strangers in a strange land, both welcome and unwelcome.

Consider the conditions that create a welcoming heart and make  welcoming communities.

What can I do to further God’s love for and interest in welcoming every stranger?

December 23 - Consecrating The Child (Luke 2:23)

When the time came for the purification rites required by the Law of Moses, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord because as it is written in the Law, “Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord.”

Pray now for those children who do not leave school with the academic skills, work readiness, and opportunities needed for a productive life.

Consider the conditions that invite every child to be successful regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, family income, learning differences, or disability.

What can I do to further God’s love for and interest in the future of every child?
