Art meditations by Angela Ramsey Robinson

Advent Meditations - Week 1
November 30 to December 6

Picture
November 30 - Visiting Angel ( Luke1:11; 2:9, 23)

An angel intrudes on Zacharias as he is performing his temple duty. Zacharias is afraid, but learns the child that he and Elizabeth have longed for is coming.

Pray now for those who are don’t have enough energy to heat or cool their home or get to work, childcare, or medical appointments

Consider the conditions that invite energy deficits for some but not others.

What can I do to further God’s compassion for and interest in those who long for what they need?

Picture
December 1 - The Star (Matthew 2:2)

"Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him."

Pray now for those who suffer the consequence of overpopulation, overfishing, factory farms, chemical spills, toxins and pollutants and other environmental degradation.

Consider the conditions that invite environmental health and places for wildlife to thrive.

What can I do to further God’s love for and interest in creation, including the more than human world?

Picture
December 2 - Bethlehem (Luke 2:4)

The child is destined to be born in tiny Bethlehem, City of David, whose Hebrew name means “house of bread.”

Pray now for those who are “food outsiders” those who are hungry and lack access to the means to consistently grow, buy, or eat enough healthy food, and those who struggle with food allergies or food disorders.

Consider the conditions that invite food resiliency and a healthy relationship with food.

What can I do to further God’s pointed interest in every stomach?

Picture
December 3 - Caesar (Luke 2:1)

Caesar Augustus demands a census be taken of the entire Roman world, bringing Joseph and Mary to Judea.

Pray now for those treated differently by government because of race, age, gender, gender orientation, religion, or ethnicity

Consider the conditions that invite fairness.

What can I do to further God’s love for and interest in fairness?

December 4 - Manger (Luke 2: 7)

When Mary’s son is born she wraps Him in cloths, and lays Him in a manger.

Mangers are animal feeding troughs.

Pray now for those who are born into poverty and feel the weight of poverty in their daily lives

Consider the conditions that invite abundance for those in need

What can I do to further God’s compassion for and interest in every home and community?

Picture
December 5 - Birthplace (Luke 2:7)

Because there is no room for them in the inn, Mary’s infant is born where the animals are kept.

Pray now for those who face health care access issues, including access to mental health services, drug and alcohol treatment, and basic healthcare dental, prenatal, and preventative care.

Consider the conditions that invite enough healing places.

What can I do to further God’s compassion for and interest in those who need health and healing?

Picture
December 6 - Journey (Luke 2:3-4)

Everyone goes to their own town to register. Joseph goes from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belongs to the house and line of David to register with Mary, who is pledged to be married to him and is expecting a child.

Pray now for those who are caught in a cycle of imprisonment and recidivism, greater likelihood of incarceration due to race, and the consequences that follow even the innocently imprisoned.

Consider the conditions that invite a justice system that is fair and rehabilitative.

What can I do to further God’s love for and interest in those in prison and every person’s dignity, forgiveness, and restoration?
